Sage X3 2026 R1: what changes in production and accounting
What Sage has published about version 12.0.39, what already applies to Sage X3 users in Portugal and what to check before upgrading.
Sage released Sage X3 2026 R1, version 12.0.39, in early June 2026. The technical presentation of the new features is dated 3 June and the commercial announcement 25 June. We have combined the two and separated what already applies to clients in Portugal from what, for now, only exists in other markets.
Accounting and invoicing
The financial feature Sage highlights most is AI-assisted electronic invoicing, connected to Sage Platform. It has been announced only for France and does not apply to Portugal: here, invoice reporting to the AT, SAF-T (PT) and ATCUD continue to be handled by the Portuguese localisation of Sage X3 and by the legal pack we maintain.
There is a useful technical change for users of Sage electronic invoicing: a company can now be flagged as a test company and run the full invoicing flow without sending data to the official Sage Network Invoicing platform.
For those who prepare reports and controls, two small but practical changes:
- In the SQL query tool (GESALQ), a query can call a 4GL function directly, which avoids rewriting in SQL logic that already exists in the ERP.
- Each attachment can have its own access code, instead of always inheriting the access of the function it belongs to.
- The Quick print action prints a report with the default values, without the intermediate window.
Production
For production, the announcement mentions more visibility over planning through Lynq, a solution delivered by Sage partners. It is available in the United States, Canada, South Africa, Australia and the United Kingdom; Sage says it will reach other markets later, with no date. In Portugal we cannot install it yet.
On the technical side, GraphQL queries have been revised to include properties that Sage Copilot needs and are now faster in purchasing, sales and projects. The Sage X3 Mobile Automation app now allows favourites to be organised.
Sage Copilot
Sage describes Copilot as an assistant that identifies risks and opportunities in sales, finance, inventory and operations, within the screens teams already use, and stresses that decisions, approvals and actions remain with people. It is the same principle we follow in the agents we connect to the ERP. Before enabling it for a client, we confirm with Sage that it is available for that installation and that language.
Platform and requirements
- Support for Crystal Reports Developer 2025. Sage recommends not installing Crystal Developer on servers running the X3 Print Server.
- MongoDB updated to version 8.2.5.
- Sage X3 Services now support multiple instances and Linux.
- The notification server can now configure the domain sent in the EHLO command, as required by current mail servers.
- Microsoft SQL Server 2016 and Oracle 12 are no longer supported.
Sage X3 as SaaS, with infrastructure, updates and security managed by Sage, is available in the United Kingdom, the United States and Germany. For other countries, Sage has announced a global launch with no date.
Before upgrading
The point that weighs most in planning is the database: an installation still on SQL Server 2016 has to move to a newer version before or during the upgrade. Next come customisations and Crystal reports, which we test on a copy of the production environment.
In Portugal, validation always includes the SAF-T (PT) file and invoice reporting to the AT before go-live. The upgrade date is agreed with each client, away from month-end closes and tax deadlines.
