NOS and Claranet: what the acquisition changed for companies with their ERP in the cloud
NOS bought Claranet Portugal in 2025. What has changed since for companies with their ERP in the group's data centres, and what is worth asking your provider.
On 27 January 2025, NOS announced it was buying 100% of Claranet Portugal from the Claranet group for 152 million euros. Claranet Portugal had revenue of 205 million euros in 2024 and around 900 people. The Portuguese Competition Authority did not object, and the deal closed on 17 March 2025.
What has changed since
- Claranet Portugal still operates under the same brand, under an agreement with the Claranet group, and with its own management.
- In February 2026 it absorbed TenTwentyOne, another IT company in the NOS group, with its people and its applications, cloud and managed services.
- NOS Empresas now sells cloud and cybersecurity together with Claranet. The private cloud is offered as Claranet Cloud Platform, with data centres in Lisbon, Porto and Barcelona.
- In the first half of 2026, NOS's IT revenue, which includes Claranet, rose 13.4% to 103.5 million euros.
What this means if your ERP is in the cloud
The most visible change for a client is a single group with the network, the data centres and the managed services. The link between the office and the data centre, server hosting and the security operations centre now come from the same house.
The question that matters is still the same: who answers when the ERP stops. The data centre provides power, cooling, network and physical security. The server, the backups, the updates and the ERP itself need someone to operate them every day.
Questions to ask your provider
- Which data centre are the servers in, and can the data leave Portugal?
- Who tests restoring the backups, and how often?
- Who picks up when the ERP stops responding: the data centre, the integrator or the vendor?
- What happens to the contract if the provider's brands or terms change?
The Sevways cloud runs in data centres of NOS Empresas and Claranet Portugal; the servers, operations, ERP and support are ours. If you want to review where your ERP is today and who is responsible for it, ask us for an assessment.
